Treatment Philosophy
The goal of this practice is a caring, individualized approach that places the patient and patient-provider collaboration at the center of treatment. The practice focuses on providing evidence-based mental health care that is also holistic and takes into account a patient’s whole picture, using a biopsychosociocultural framework. This means that multiple factors that can influence mental health are taken into consideration, including the biological or medical, the psychological, and the sociocultural (e.g. your physical and social environment, stressors, relationships and cultural background, to name a few). This framework integrates a biological/medical understanding of mental health concerns and their treatments, such as medications. However, not all patients want or need medications; for some people, psychotherapy alone can result in significant improvement. Psychotherapy is a cornerstone of our practice, and Dr. Frank’s approach draws upon multiple schools of therapy, including supportive, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral therapies. Finally, while responding to mental health concerns after they develop is a common and important reason for seeking out therapy or medication management, our practice also focuses on the bigger picture: not just responding to symptoms, but also helping patients deepen their self understanding and wellness practices with the goal of continued wellbeing.
